Support That Meets You Where You Are

Helping you navigate stress and anxiety - with practical tools that actually work

Balancing a demanding career, personal responsibilities and your own expectations can leave you constantly stretched. You might look like you're holding it together on the outside, but inside you're exhausted, overwhelmed or anxious and wondering how much longer you can keep going like this.

If that sounds familiar, you're not alone.

I work with professionals who are capable and conscientious, but who feel like they’re running on empty. Together, we uncover what’s really going on and build the clarity, tools and resilience you need to feel calmer, more confident and able to reconnect to yourself.

How I can help

Utilising a unique blend of Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (Hypno-CBT®), stress management techniques, and coaching approaches, I tailor sessions to your unique goals and needs whether you're grappling with self-doubt, struggling with sleep, or trying to manage life's pressures.

I share evidence-based strategies that you can implement immediately, enabling you to move beyond merely coping to start thriving.

Common Areas of Support

  • Stress, overwhelm, and emotional fatigue

  • Generalised anxiety and overthinking

  • Imposter syndrome and self-doubt

  • Insomnia and sleep disturbances

  • Phobias or specific anxieties

  • Work-life imbalance and burnout prevention

You don't need a formal diagnosis or a clearly defined issue - if you're not feeling like yourself, we can work on it together.

What to Expect

I meet all my clients with warmth and compassion; you’ll find no judgement here, however trivial or irrational you may think your issue is. I’m interested to know how it feels for you and how it impacts your life. We’ll work together to make sense of it and explore how you can start to address it.

Over the course of our sessions, you will develop the tools, techniques and confidence to become your own therapist.

I appreciate how challenging a decision it can be to find the right person to support you which is why I offer a free, no-obligation consultation. If we decide to proceed, sessions can be taken online, or in-person in my clinic in Chelmsford, Essex.

Your Questions, Answered:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) explores how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and actions. Whilst some exploration of your past and what has led to your current difficulties can be helpful, CBT very much emphasises the present, focusing on the here and now, helping you to develop more effective ways of coping with life.

CBT is the most evidence based form of psychological therapy available. It is the treatment of choice for anxiety and depression and its effectiveness is supported by a huge number of research studies.

What is perhaps less well known is that hypnotherapy also has a very extensive evidence base. By helping you to focus your attention, you become responsive to what is being suggested and you can make quick and powerful changes to your thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

When CBT and hypnotherapy are used together, the results have been shown to be even more effective and longer lasting than either treatment by itself.

Together we will explore the link between how the way you think (about yourself, others and the world around you) impacts on your feelings, emotions and behaviours. We use hypnosis to practice thinking and behaving in new, more helpful ways.

  • Hypnotherapy addresses subconscious patterns and responses, while coaching focuses on setting and achieving goals. I integrate both approaches to provide comprehensive support tailored to you.

  • Hypnosis is not like being asleep nor is it an altered state of consciousness.

Using imagery, hypnotic language and metaphors, I will guide you into a deep state of relaxation. This enables you to focus your attention on what is being suggested to you and respond to these suggestions in a way that is beneficial for you and your goals for therapy.

Most people are aware of everything that is being said and done during hypnosis. You can come out of hypnosis whenever you want to simply by opening your eyes.

People experience hypnosis differently, for example some may feel more sleepy than normal, others may find they are more absorbed in their imagination. Most people find it deeply relaxing and enjoyable!

  • The simple answer is no! Hypnosis is completely safe, when delivered by a qualified hypnotherapist. Nobody has ever become ‘stuck’ in hypnosis.

The suggestions that I make to you will be positive in nature and linked to the goals for therapy that we have set. You have complete control as to whether you chose to accept these suggestions and you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.

  • Relaxation does not come easily to many of us! Our busy lives and never-ending to-do lists can make the very idea of relaxing seem like a distant dream let alone actually knowing how to do it.

Relaxation forms part of almost all of my therapy plans. It is absolutely a skill that can be learnt and developed over time. I guide clients through deep relaxation sessions as well as teaching quick techniques that can be used in moments of anxiety or stress.

So if you are someone who finds your mind wanders constantly and you can struggle to stay focused, please don’t be put off – this will be part of the work that we do together.

  • Clinical hypnotherapy is nothing like stage hypnosis, which is primarily used to entertain an audience. Unhelpfully, it can foster misconceptions about hypnotherapy and prevent people from experiencing its benefits. Take what you see on television with a generous pinch of salt!

  • Hypnotherapy is an effective treatment for a wide range of subclinical issues.

If I do not feel hypnotherapy would be a suitable treatment for you, I will do my best to signpost you to other providers or avenues to explore.

Hypnotherapy is not suitable for severe mental health issues. I cannot provide emergency input, in these cases please consult your GP or A&E services.

  • Hypnotherapy is a powerful, effective and rapid therapy for addressing a wide range of issues and most people can benefit from it.

People sometimes worry that they can’t be hypnotised but actually it is a skill – everyone can learn to respond and with practice you can get better at it.

Hypnosis is not magical, nor is it something that happens to you. It requires your co-operation and participation. The skill is in being able to think and imagine along with the suggestion.

We will agree a plan for the work that we will do together and that you will do between sessions. The research shows that doing this homework leads to quicker and more powerful gains.

  • Research shows talking therapy is as effective online as in person.

Many people prefer to be in the comfort of their own home at a time that suits them and so opt for online therapy.

For this format, it is important you have a safe, comfortable and confidential space free from distractions. Working technology, including a stable internet connection and camera on your PC or laptop is also important.

If you would like to discuss whether online or in-person is better for you, please get in touch.

  • With your permission, I will record the hypnosis element of a therapy session. This will then be shared with you afterwards to practice in your own time.

Stories of Change

  • I'm so pleased to have been able to take Amy's 'Resilience Boost' session recently - it has given me an incredibly useful toolkit for catching myself from spiraling into negative, energy draining thoughts. Amy is a great listener and very quickly understood my experiences and needs; she used this knowledge to tailor the session and effectively cement the techniques for me to use in future. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn how to be more resilient and protect their mental health in the workplace, enabling them to do their very best work.

  • “Amy, I can’t thank you enough – you have changed my life! I will be forever grateful for the time you spent with me, going much further with the therapy than we had initially planned and helping me to manage such a deep-rooted and emotionally draining problem. You were incredibly attentive the whole way through. You have a huge knowledge base and really helped me to see and understand why I was displaying certain behaviours. You listened well and included everything I was saying in the treatment process, which worked brilliantly. Thank you.”

  • “I have been affected for some years by an unreasonable phobia of chair lifts. As an incredibly keen skier, you can imagine that this has prevented me from skiing at all, as I was unable to sit on one without having a panic attack. Earlier this year, I had hypnotherapy with Amy and was able to enjoy my subsequent ski holiday, taking several chair lifts a day without any signs of panic. A miracle indeed!! Thank you Amy.”

Client seeking support for facing a fear

  • “Living with chronic pain can be hugely frustrating. Amy shared with me multiple things to try and with her guidance and support I have found them to be life-changing. The sessions we had ranged from hypnotic pain scripts, relaxation techniques, dealing with anxiety around hospital appointments through to identifying and challenging negative thinking. I was really impressed with Amy’s abilities and range of techniques that she used during our time together. Amy will be my first port of call in the future if I ever want hypnotherapy again. I would recommend anyone to see her. She is incredible!”

  • “Amy is really calming. That was one of the best guided relaxations I’ve followed. I’ve never had someone say ‘relax about trying to relax’. That really made a difference as I didn’t put pressure on myself and I went so much more deeply into it. Amy is really calming.”

Client attending a guided relaxation session

  • “Amy’s sessions really helped me grow and overcome some issues I had been living with for a long time. Amy is very approachable and welcoming, and she always put me at ease. She took the time to listen to my concerns, before we decided together what to work towards and focus our sessions on. I loved how structured the sessions were, and how clear Amy was in setting goals and aims, both short and long term. We established a lovely client-therapist relationship and I particularly liked the homework she set in between our sessions, so that I could practice what we had covered and link it to my experiences. My confidence and my self-awareness really grew during the course of our sessions and I found the whole experience life-changing.”

Client seeking support for confidence and procrastination

  • “I was quite sceptical about my own ability to be receptive to hypnosis as I have an extremely active mind and find it very difficult to relax and focus without my mind wandering. Amy spent a lot of time initially explaining hypnosis and how it works, I found this extremely interesting and reassuring that the therapy really could work for me. Amy was calm and reassuring throughout, using engaging questions to help me really understand what was holding me back and creating my fear. The sessions themselves were always extremely calm and relaxing. Amy felt very trustworthy and caring and I believed that she really wanted to help me. My experience was so positive and effective. I would not hesitate in recommending Amy to friends and family and have developed a new found understanding, respect and belief in the power of hypnosis.”

Walking the Labyrinth

At Mindwise, the labyrinth represents the journey we take when we choose to look inward. It’s not a maze to be solved but a path to be walked, with no wrong turns and no need to rush.

There’s no single “right” way to move through it. You might go quickly or slowly. Pause. Reflect. Step aside. Come back again. But you're not walking it alone and you're not left to wander without direction.

In many traditions, the labyrinth is experienced in three stages:

Releasing

As you begin the path, there’s space to let go - of stress, of expectations, of what’s been weighing you down. Together, we’ll begin to make sense of what’s happening and where change is possible.

Receiving

At the centre, there’s no pressure to have everything figured out - only space to notice. This is where we start to shift unhelpful patterns, reconnect to what matters, and explore tools that support real change.

Returning

You leave the labyrinth the same way you entered, but something is different. You carry what you’ve gathered with you: insight, confidence, and strategies you can use long after our sessions have ended.

The work we do may be reflective but it’s also structured, evidence-based, and purposeful.

I’ll guide you with a clear, compassionate framework designed to help you feel more resilient, more capable, and more like yourself again.

You don’t have to wait until everything feels overwhelming to ask for support. Whether you’re facing a specific challenge or just not feeling like yourself, I can offer you a space to pause, reset and find a new way forward - one that works for you.
